Best Wedding Venues in London: A Magician's Guide
Written by Nick Rushton — Award-Winning Magician
London has more wedding venues than anywhere else in the UK — from grand hotels to quirky warehouses, historic houses to rooftop terraces. Having performed at weddings across London for over 29 years, I've seen what works and what doesn't. Here are the venues that consistently deliver brilliant wedding days.
The Savoy
One of the world's most famous hotels, and it lives up to its reputation for weddings. The Lancaster Ballroom is stunning, the service is impeccable, and the Thames-side location provides dramatic backdrop photos. It's expensive — but for couples who want a genuinely iconic London wedding, it's hard to argue with The Savoy.
Claridge's
Art deco elegance in Mayfair. The Ballroom holds up to 400, but Claridge's also does intimate weddings beautifully. The attention to detail is extraordinary — from the floral arrangements to the food to the service. I've performed here several times and the pre-function spaces are excellent for close-up magic during the drinks reception.
Kew Gardens
Getting married in one of the world's most famous botanical gardens is special. The Nash Conservatory and Orangery are licensed for ceremonies, and the grounds provide endless photo opportunities. It works particularly well for spring and summer weddings when the gardens are in bloom.
One Marylebone
A deconsecrated church in central London, now one of the city's most sought-after event venues. The soaring ceilings, original columns, and dramatic interior create an atmosphere that needs minimal decoration. Ceremonies in the main hall feel genuinely cinematic. Capacity up to 250.
The Shard
Weddings at The Shard offer views across the entire London skyline from the 31st floor and above. It's a modern, dramatic choice that photographs incredibly well — especially as the sun sets over the city. The spaces are flexible, with rooms for intimate dinners of 30 up to receptions of 300.
Hampton Court Palace
A Tudor palace that has hosted events since Henry VIII's time. The Great Hall, the Privy Garden, and the Palace lawns all provide ceremony and reception options that no modern venue can replicate. There's a magic to getting married in a 500-year-old palace that's hard to describe. It's a Heritage venue, so there are some restrictions, but the atmosphere is unmatched.
The Landmark London
The Winter Garden atrium — an eight-storey glass-roofed courtyard — is one of London's most impressive event spaces. Natural light floods the space during the day, and it transforms with lighting in the evening. The hotel's event team is experienced and professional. Great for larger weddings of 150-300.
Asylum Chapel, Peckham
For couples who want something raw and unconventional, the Asylum Chapel is a Grade II listed former chapel with peeling paint, bare brick, and a beautifully imperfect aesthetic. It's a ceremony-only venue (you'll need a separate reception location), but the atmosphere for the ceremony itself is incredibly powerful.
Trinity Buoy Wharf
An arts and events space on the Thames in East London with views of the O2 and Canary Wharf. The Chainstore venue within the site is an industrial blank-canvas space that creative couples love. It's a dry hire venue, so you bring in everything, but the riverside location and the London skyline backdrop are worth the extra planning.
The Hurlingham Club
A private members' club in Fulham with 42 acres of grounds — an oasis in the middle of London. The Palm Court and terrace are perfect for summer weddings, and the formal gardens provide stunning photo opportunities. Access is through members only, so you'll need a connection, but for those who can book it, it's one of London's finest wedding settings.
Choosing a London Venue
London venues vary hugely in price, capacity, and style. Some practical things to consider:
- Transport — central London venues are easy to reach by Tube and taxi, but parking is expensive or non-existent. Venues in outer London or the suburbs offer parking but may need clearer directions for guests
- Noise restrictions — many central London venues have strict noise limits due to residential neighbours. Check the curfew time and any amplified music restrictions
- Accommodation — hotel venues let guests stay over, which is a big advantage for weddings where guests are drinking and celebrating late
- Exclusive use vs shared — some hotel venues hold multiple events simultaneously. Exclusive use costs more but means the venue is entirely yours
- Corkage — London venue drink prices can be eye-watering. Some venues allow you to bring your own wine with a corkage fee, which can save thousands
