Young Magician of the Year

Magic Circle Magician for Hire

Former Young Magician of the Year winner. Trained to Magic Circle standards.

I'm Nick Rushton — former winner of The Magic Circle's 'Young Magician of the Year' competition. Part of the prize was direct entry to the society, and I was trained to the exacting standards of the world's most prestigious magical organisation. When you book me, you're booking a magician who has been peer-assessed as performing at the highest level in the craft. Available across the UK for weddings, parties and corporate events.

What Is The Magic Circle?

The Magic Circle is the world's most prestigious magical society, founded in London in 1905. Its famous headquarters in Euston houses a museum, theatre and library, and its membership includes many of the most respected names in magic — from David Nixon and Paul Daniels to modern-day TV magicians.

Membership isn't a subscription — you have to pass a formal audition in front of existing members, demonstrating both technical skill and the ability to entertain a live audience. The society has a strict code of ethics, and members who break it can be expelled.

When you book a Magic Circle magician, you're booking someone who has been judged by other professional magicians to perform at the highest standard — the same way a chef earns a Michelin rating or a lawyer earns their bar qualification.

Young Magician of the Year

Of all the Magic Circle competitions, Young Magician of the Year is the most prestigious for performers starting their professional career. Entrants perform live in front of a panel of senior Magic Circle members, and are judged on technical skill, originality, audience reaction and presentation.

Winning it was the turning point in my career. It led directly to TV appearances on BBC One, Channel 5 and Sky, and opened doors to the kind of private celebrity events and premium corporate bookings I perform at today.

For event organisers, the award is a shortcut — you don't have to spend time assessing footage, comparing performers, and second-guessing quality. A Young Magician of the Year winner has already been through that process at the highest level.

What a Magic Circle Magician Brings to Your Event

Technical Skill

Sleight of hand assessed and refined under the scrutiny of professional magicians — the techniques are invisible, clean and reliable.

Stage Presence

Magic Circle membership requires not just technical skill but the ability to entertain — knowing how to work a room, handle hecklers, and create atmosphere.

Ethical Practice

Members adhere to a strict code of ethics, including never exposing the methods of magic, maintaining professional standards, and treating clients honestly.

Reliability

Full-time professionals rather than part-time hobbyists. Magic Circle members tend to run proper businesses — confirmation in writing, insurance, PAT testing, punctuality.

Original Material

The society encourages original creative work rather than stock tricks. You get performances you won't have seen before — personal, surprising, memorable.

Peer Recognition

Being recognised by other professional magicians is the ultimate quality guarantee — these are the people who understand what separates good magic from great magic.

Magic Circle Magician FAQs

What is The Magic Circle?

The Magic Circle is the world's most prestigious magical society, founded in London in 1905. It has a famous headquarters in Euston, a museum of magical history, and strict rules of membership. Members must pass a formal audition in front of existing members, demonstrating both technical skill and presentation ability. Members who break the society's code of ethics can be expelled.

Are you a Magic Circle member?

I won the society's 'Young Magician of the Year' competition — part of the prize was direct entry to The Magic Circle without the usual examination. I was trained to the exacting standards of the world's most prestigious magical society, and that training underpins everything I perform. Previous winners include many of the UK's best-known professional magicians. See my awards page for the full list.

Why does booking a Magic Circle magician matter?

Magic Circle membership is a quality guarantee. Members have been assessed by professional magicians, abide by a strict code of ethics, and tend to be full-time professionals rather than part-time hobbyists. If you want reliable, polished, high-quality entertainment for your event, a Magic Circle magician is a safe bet.

How much does a Magic Circle magician cost?

Magic Circle magicians typically charge between £500 and £1,500 depending on event type, duration, travel and time of year. The higher fees reflect the standard of performance and the peer-recognised skill level. See my packages page for specifics, or get in touch for a tailored quote.

Do all Magic Circle magicians perform close-up magic?

No — members specialise in different types of magic (stage, illusion, children's magic, mentalism, close-up). I specialise in close-up magic and mentalism — the style that works best at weddings, corporate events and private parties. It's performed right in front of guests without needing a stage or sound system.

What events do Magic Circle magicians perform at?

I perform at weddings, corporate events, charity galas, private parties, product launches, awards dinners and Christmas parties across the UK.
